Pre-K Counts

Warren's only STAR 4 child care offers a Pre-K Counts program that meet Pennsylvania's highest quality ranking. High quality programming provides a better child care experience for your child. Pre-K Counts Program:

PA Pre-K Counts was established by the Department of Education to bring quality half and full day pre-kindergarten to 3 and 4 year olds across the state.

 

To qualify for PA Pre-K Counts the following guidelines must be met:

 

  • *Child must be 3, 4 or 5 years of age.   Children who are age eligible to go to kindergarten are not eligible for the PA Pre-K Counts program.
  • *Family income must be at or below 250% of the federal poverty level.
  • *Additional risk factors include a child who is receiving behavioral supports, in child protective services, English language learner, homeless, incarcerated parent, child with an IEP, child born to a teen mother and/or migrant seasonal student.

 

The Jefferson DeFrees Family Center PA Pre-K Counts program operates Monday – Friday from 8am until 3pm. We provide a snack and lunch daily. Our teacher, Tammy Griffin is certified in Early Childhood Education and uses Creative Curriculum, PA Early Learning Standards and Work Sampling to insure your child has the best learning opportunities. All costs for the program including lunch, snack, activities and fieldtrips are free to families who qualify. There are 6 slots available for the JD PA Pre-K Counts program. 

 

Care is available in the Jefferson DeFrees Family Child Care for families who need before and after program care.

 

Enrollment in the program is based on income level and risk factors. As applications are received they are numbered and then reviewed in the order they arrived. A letter will be sent to all applicants letting them know the outcome of their application.
